Musician Jon Short just received a fellowship from the Worcester Cultural Commission. So why is he singing the blues?
Because he’s ready to party!
“What most people don’t understand is that the blues is party music,” said Short, a music teacher in the Worcester public schools. “There are the sad, lonesome blues, but there’s also the country blues, where folks got together on Saturday and Sunday night at house parties and juke joints they just wanted to get down.”
Short was one of two $4,000 fellowship winners named when the Worcester Cultural Commission announced recipients for the 2010 granting cycle recently. The commission divvied up $115,673 among 61 Worcester area artists, organizations and educational institutions.
